Cary, N.C. – June 18, 2012 – Industry Standard Research (ISR) today announced the launch of a new market research report titled “MSL and Sales Strategies for the US Oncology Market”, which provides the pharmaceutical and biotech sales and marketing professionals with insight into how US Oncologists want to interact with manufacturers.

ISR’s latest report is based on a survey of 102 Oncologists and Hematologist-Oncologists in the United States.

“This report measures several aspects of how pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers could and should interact with Oncologists” explained Andrew Schafer, President of ISR. “We surveyed Oncologists around several popular communication channels, such as medical science liaisons (MSLs) and sales reps to determine how they prefer to receive specific types of drug information.”

The communication channels ISR evaluated include: MSLs, traditional sales representatives, electronic detailing, peer-based literature, and payer representatives.

Oncologists select their preferred channel for each of the following type of drug information: new competing product information; changes to treatment guidelines; clinical trial safety and efficacy data; academic research findings; general product benefits and risks; patient education materials; medication adherence programs/materials; and medication economics, cost of care, and reimbursement information.

“This report provides the industry with actionable data allowing manufacturers to determine if their sales and marketing strategies align with Oncologists’ desires and expectations when it comes to the delivery of certain types of drug information” Schafer explained.

ISR’s report provides aggregated data across all settings, but also evaluates how the preferred communication channels fluctuate based on an Oncologist’s practice setting.

In addition to communication channels, the report also measures the current levels of access manufacturers have to Oncologists, the frequency and duration of those visits, Oncologists’ satisfaction with those interactions, current and future anticipated prescribing behaviors, and Oncologists’ opinions about which pharma/biotech manufacturers have the best MSLs and the traits they find valuable in an MSL.
